About Me

Vocal Music/Chorus

I am thrilled to continue the choral arts program at PCHS for the fifth year, and I look forward to giving our students the opportunity to learn to sing correctly and experience the joy of choral music!
I am a 12-year alumna of the North Carolina Master Chorale, Resident Chorus of the North Carolina Symphony, under the direction of Dr. Alfred Sturgis. I studied music and voice performance with Dr. Risa Poniros at Raleigh Conservatory of Music and Meredith College. I taught voice lessons for several years at Tone Zone Music, a private studio in the Raleigh area, where several of my teen students were selected for lead parts in their high school musicals.
A native of Pamlico County, I am a proud 1977 graduate of Pamlico County High School! I perform annually with Craven Messiah Chorus in New Bern, and serve locally as a worship music leader and assistant pianist at Rock of Zion OFWB Church, as seasonal interim choir director and pianist for Arapahoe Methodist Church, and as music/drama leader at H2O Week at Camp Vandemere. I also teach private piano lessons.

Theater Arts

I am excited to lead the Theater Arts program for the 4th year at my alma mater (PCHS Class of ’77!),
and look forward to working again with our incredibly creative students! My formal introduction to drama/theater arts was right here at PCHS under the tutelage of one of my favorite teachers, Mrs. Nefferitte Harper. My community theater background includes Pamlico Arts Council’s 1981 production of Li’l Abner in the lead role of Daisy Mae, and New Bern’s Footlight Theater productions of Pippin, Guys & Dolls, Fiddler on the Roof (Hodel), Godspell, The King & I (Tuptim), Madwoman of Chaillot (Baroness), and The Prime of Miss Jean Brody (Makeup Designer). I love creating sets, props, and costumes, and have had many opportunities over the years to do so.
In the Spring of 2020, I worked as Music Director with Mrs. Lynn Whalen on PCHS's production of Emma!, the musical which was unfortunately cancelled due to the COVID school closure. Since becoming Theater Arts Instructor, we have produced The Storm, Horror Movie 101, A Christmas Carol (twice), Alibis, and Daunte Pugh’s Remember the Name. I look forward to A Charlie Brown Christmas and whatever else this year brings!
