About Mr. Gorton
Syllabus
Welcome to Pamlico County High School. My name is Joseph Gorton. This year, I will be tasked with introducing the students to Economics and Personal Finance.
I am a student of history, languages, exotic foods, travel, hiking, survival techniques, and more. I like to read any and everything I can get my hands on. My reading tastes go from science fiction, classic novels, history-related stuff, to the back of a shampoo bottle when I am bored.
In my spare time I like to travel the United States and see as much of it as I can. I have two children and a wife naturally, and we pile into our car and drive all over the country each summer. I have been to 45 states and a couple countries. This summer we spent our time in the Catskills of New York, the Green Mountains of Vermont, and all over Maine. We stopped along the way to hear some live music, to visit Woodstock, and hit the woods to hike, rock climb, river raft, and camp. One day I hope to hike the Appalachian Trail, The G20 in Corsica, and the Te Aroroa in New Zealand.
I have a degree in teaching History, a degree in Civics (Political Science), a degree in German, and a Masters Degree in Administration. I love to learn, and I hope to soon take the Praxis tests so that I may be certified in Health, English, Science, and more. I often take classes to expand my knowledge, and have plans to soon take classes in refrigeration, HVAC, and electrical systems. I am just curious about how all of those things work.
I try to bring passion and fun to my classrooms and beyond. Most kids love me, so ask them what they did in Economics and Finance today. I am sure they would love to tell you.
