About Mr. Gorton
Welcome to Civics at Pamlico County High School. My name is Joseph Gorton. This year is a bit scary, but I know that myself, along with our wonderful staff, will produce a great learning experience for your children.
I am a student of history, languages, exotic foods, travel, hiking, survival techniques, and more. I like to read any and everything I can get my hands on. My reading tastes go from science fiction, classic novels, history-related stuff, to the back of a shampoo bottle when I am bored.
In my spare time I like to travel the United States and see as much of it as I can. I have two children and a wife naturally, and we pile into our car and drive all over the country each summer. I have been to 45 states and a couple countries. This summer we visited 14 states, stopping along the way to hike, rock climb, river raft, and camp. We even hiked the 9 highest peaks in 9 of those states. One day I hope to hike the Appalachian Trail, The G20 in Corsica, and the Te Aroroa in New Zealand.
I have a degree in teaching History, a degree in Civics (Political Science), a degree in German, and a Masters Degree in Administration. I love to learn, and I hope to soon take the Praxis tests so that I may be certified in Health, English, Science, and more. I often take classes to expand my knowledge, and have plans to soon take classes in refrigeration, HVAC, and electrical systems. I am just curious about how all of those things work.
I try to bring passion and fun to my classrooms and beyond. Most kids love me, so ask them what they did in Civics today. I am sure they would love to tell you.
