Pamlico County Schools congratulates Ms. Simone Collins, English Teacher Extraordinaire for PCHS. Ms. Collins was selected as the Pamlico County representative for the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching, Beginning Teacher of the Year!
Ms. Collins is originally from Cape Town, South Africa and graduated from the University of Pretoria with a Speech and Drama degree. She taught English as a Second Language in Asia for several years before coming to the United States with her “big ol country husband who convinced [her] of a better life in Eastern, NC.”
Ms. Collins says, “I believe I was sent to make a lasting impact, to contribute to my students’ well being.”
Her advice for other beginning or future teachers is “find and build your support system. I am blessed to have a great one. Together we eat, cry and laugh on any given day. One quickly realizes that your strength lies in unity.”
Teachers and students alike agree that Ms. Collins is an asset to our school and we are grateful that her path led her our way.
Congratulations Ms. Collins on a well deserved award!
